You know Charles Schultz is from St. Paul, and of course they passed on his strip in the St. Paul daily paper, "the pioneer press" and told him he'd never make it as a comic, anywhere.
He became such a famous twin cities person that there are statues of his characters smattered about on park benches, in city parks, on sidewalks, etc.
But no matter how many statues of his characters St. Paul built, or little events they held in in his honor as a native son, Charles never wanted to acknowledge St. Paul as Charlie Brown's neighborhood. Not only that Charles never allowed the Peanuts Comic to run in St. Paul, ever.
He apparently never got over his initial rejection.
